What does one do when she has a long layover in Copenhagen, Denmark? Explore of course!
Despite it being gray and misty out, I took in a small tour of the Northern European city along my day trip. I was so impressed at how immaculate and organized everything looked. Even in the airport, there were electronic signs when you entered that displayed how many minutes to get through security. Maybe I haven’t gotten out much, but that was pretty nifty.
I spent most of time in the city center, walking along the famous Nyhavn waterfront. The colors of the buildings were, naturally, right up my alley also. Cafes and pubs in primary colors of red, yellow and blue dotted the canal.
Meanwhile, sand colored palaces could be found at Amalienborg, home of the royal family which features 18th-century rococo decor.
Let’s not forget that mint green dome atop Frederik’s Church, an 18th-century Lutheran church (which also has the largest dome in Scandinavia).
Of course, I made sure to grab a bite to eat as well (my first stop, in fact). I found a cute spot called Restaurant Heering along Nyhavn and it was warm and welcoming. My waitress was very friendly and recommended a few places to check out during my short time there. And yes, the food was tasty as well! I had a simple bacon and eggs breakfast, and paired it with a cool glass of prosecco (always a great way to start the day, am I right?).
